I am fifty-five years old. I am over ninety years old.
I have been a member of SUGA and its predecessor for over twenty years. I am a new member. I attend every class. I attend only whenever I can I am a very busy person. I have plenty of time on my hands. I want to share my strong background in many fields. I want to learn as much as I can. I am an introvert. I am an extrovert. I am anyone. I am everyone. No matter who I am, SUGA is the one of the best things that I have found to enrich my life these days. I am not old. I am young. I am fortunate to have found this organization, filled with wonderful people who serve as examples of how to keep me young, keep me interested, keep me involved, keep me learning, keep me having fun, keep me on my toes, keep me looking forward to more education, more friends, more opportunities to prove to myself that the world is a wonderful place. Thank you to all of you who keep that smile on my face. |

To come into the church building on hot, cold or windy days, we are always met by our wonderful smiling volunteers who open up the doors to their senior 'children' Many thanks!

Still Loving SUGA
|
I was out of college and my husband was at GA Tech when we met. Then he spent time in Germany courtesy of the US Army and we got back together when he returned in 1964 and by 1965 we were married. We spent the next 40 plus years establishing careers and bringing up our girls. All of a sudden we have time that we didn't have before. We so enjoy learning and coming to school together. At SUGA we have friends we've known for 40 years and friends we have just met. It is a wonderfully significant part of our lives. It is really neat to do this together.

I love the variety of SUGA courses, the excellent instructors, and the exposure to so many different subjects. In our current stressful negative world I love having the opportunity to be a greeter and trying to make class mornings as cheery and welcoming as I can when folks walk through the door. I started working right out of high school so I never went to college and there has always been a little part of me that missed that experience. Now that I have retired and could go back to school, I really don't want to burn midnight oil studying, take tests, work on projects, and go to classes multiple days and times during the week. I had enough of that working for 41 years. So, to me SUGA affords me the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time with old friends and new. I may not be able to remember everything I learn, but I love experiencing it at the time of presentation and always feel enriched. SUGA has also given me the opportunity to take some great trips to places I wanted to go to and places I never had a burning desire to go to, but absolutely loved when I got there. Basically, I just wanted to say thanks to the board members and various committee members for their dedication in keeping the SUGA fires burning for so many years and enriching my life and the lives of others in so many ways.

I have only been attending for a little over a year, so I do not have so many stories. I will say that it makes me happy that my husband, and I can both come to the same place and participate in classes that fit our individual preferences. He tends toward the more intellectual and I tend toward the more entertaining or art-related topics. Sometimes we end up in the same classes!
It also makes me happy to connect with some of my neighbors and acquaintances that I knew before SUGA. I think the break between classes is a very important component of this program, and it is not just the cookies and candy that makes it good! |

HOW DO WE LOVE SUGA?
Let us count the ways: We love it for the interesting classes that enhance our minds and our days. We look forward to Wednesdays and Fridays, our favorite days of the week. Knowing our brains will be expanded. And with our friends we visit and speak. We love the "recess" with the candies, coffee, and tea. We love seeing "old" friends, making new ones and learning new things with heart-warming glee. |
