CURRENT EVENTS
Patrick Belott, Member, SUGA

Patrick will facilitate this always-fascinating forum on the events of the day by introducing current controversial topics that are on all of our minds. We are encouraged to offer our opinions, respond to others, and work together to “solve all of the problems of the world.”

DHARMA, THE TAO AND FATHER ABRAHAM: THE FIVE MOST WIDELY PRACTICED RELIGIONS OF MANKIND
Joseph Nash, Toastmasters International

Eighty percent of the human race is practicing or are nominal members of one of five great religions. In descending order of number of members, these are: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Chinese traditional. How much do you know about what these religions have to say about the big questions of life? Where did the Universe come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? This course offers a brief survey of the origins of these religions, the answers they provide and the scriptures in which those answers have been preserved. While not a scholarly course in philosophy or theology, the emphasis will be on the colorful legends surrounding these belief systems in the hope of inducing the “sense of wonder” that is the gateway to all religions.

WEDNESDAYS, 11:00

YOUR CULINARY PASSPORT
Marcia Abrams, Member, SUGA

Travel around the world through international cuisine. Transport yourself from your own kitchen to Italy, Mexico, Greece, Morocco and beyond. Want healthy food? Learn the right way to cook healthy fish that tastes good. Sure, chicken breasts are healthy and can take on pretty much any flavor you prefer. Discover how to cook it so it stays moist without using fatty sauces. The class will be a sampling of basic techniques from “The Great Courses: The Everyday Gourmet – Rediscovering the Lost Art of Cooking.” We will likely have time to talk about your own favorite culinary treats, recipes and restaurants. Optional: We may gather AFTER CLASS FOR LUNCH at some of the tastiest restaurants that prepare the international foods of your choice.
